Legal Research: California Cases
This online MCLE video by one of our Sacramento County Public Law Librarians will cover how California case law is developed and organized. You will learn how to locate cases in printed resources and on-line. Secondary sources will be included in the demonstration of methods researchers use to find relevant judicial opinions.
Topic will include:
– Review the US system of laws and system of legal case reporting.
– Recognize the structure of published cases and the purpose of editorial enhancements.
– Apply classic print research techniques to electronic databases to get faster, more accurate, and more complete answers to your research questions.
– Understand how to use Boolean and segment searching to build on natural language (“Google” style) search results.
The Sacramento County Public Law Library is an approved State Bar of California MCLE provider according to the State Bar of California MCLE Rules & Requirements [Rule 2.72].
