About the Program: This one-hour MCLE presentation provides an overview of the current legal and regulatory landscape impacting California’s cannabis industry, as well as an overview of the federal cannabis legal landscape. Participants will learn about the following topics:

• Federal Rescheduling
• Tax Implications and challenges facing the industry
• An overview of the California cannabis market
• Challenges facing licensees
• Newly enacted state legislation
• The future of the regulatory market

About the Speaker: Kimberly R. Simms graduated from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2009 and has dedicated her entire legal career to the cannabis industry. She is a leading expert in cannabis law and her practice includes negotiating with government officials for reasonable regulations that allow for safe access, litigating complex land use and zoning cases, and advising hundreds of cannabis entrepreneurs regarding their business strategy and structure. Kimberly is considered a trusted source by the media and has been interviewed by NPR, CNN, and many local media outlets. She is a founding Board Member of the Alliance for Responsible Medicinal Access, a local cannabis advocacy organization. Kimberly was the founding and acting Chapter Chair of San Diego Women Grow from 2015-2018 and serves as a Board Member of the California Cannabis Industry Association. She maintains memberships in California NORML, Americans for Safe Access, National Cannabis Industry Association, California Cannabis Industry Association, Women Grow, the National Cannabis Bar Association and San Diego Leadership Alliance.
