« Back to Glossary IndexIn a criminal case, a defendant who pleades “Nolo Contendre” or “No Contest” accepts conviction, but does not admit guilt. a Nolo Contendre plea has the same effect as pleading guilty, except that the plea cannot be used against the defendant in civil court. This can only be used in traffic or criminal court. From the Latin for “I do not wish to contend.”
