Many occupational and professional licensing agencies consider criminal convictions when deciding whether to grant or discipline a license. This presentation will help criminal defense attorneys and unrepresented parties understand the consequences of criminal convictions in the licensing context, what it means for a conviction to be “substantially related” to a profession, and recent legal changes affecting expungements of convictions.
The Honorable Sean Gavin and criminal defense attorney Jennifer Mouzis will be presenting this webinar.
The Honorable Sean Gavin has served at the Sacramento Office of Administrative Hearings since January 2019. Before that, he spent 11 years as a civil litigator, focusing on employment law, landlord tenant law, and business law.
Jennifer Mouzis, founder and principal attorney at Mouzis Criminal Defense, heads a Sacramento-based, women-led law firm specializing in defending individuals accused of criminal conduct by state or federal entities. A 1998 graduate of McGeorge School of Law, Jennifer has litigated criminal cases statewide as a former deputy district attorney and private defense counsel. Actively engaged in community service, she serves on the boards of the Sacramento County Bar Association (SCBA) and California Attorneys for Criminal Justice (CACJ), the Upper Room Dining Hall, and founded and chairs the nonprofit When There Are Nine (WTA9), dedicated to addressing inequities in the legal system for women and marginalized groups.
