Pursuant to CA Family Code § 17400, the local child support agency (LCSA) shall have the responsibility for promptly and effectively establishing, modifying, and enforcing child support obligations, including medical support, enforcing spousal support orders established by a court of competent jurisdiction, and determining paternity in the case of a child born out of wedlock. The LCSA shall take appropriate action to establish, modify, and enforce child support and, if appropriate, enforce spousal support orders if the child is receiving public assistance. Attorneys employed within the LCSA may direct, control, and prosecute civil actions and proceedings in the name of the county in support of child support activities of the Department of Child Support Services and the LCSA.
In this presentation, you will hear from Ron Ladage, Principal Attorney and Jessica Foster, Child Support Attorney with Sacramento County Child Support Services www.dcss.saccounty.net, on how Sacramento County meets these requirements. They will discuss the tools available to their office to enforce a child support and medical support order, such as license suspensions, bank levy, intercepts, etc. They will also discuss the suspension of child support orders, modifications, and registering other states’ orders. This course should give you a clear understanding of the functions of the Local Child Support Agency.
