We are nearly 2 years after the March 2020 “shelter in place” orders where courts shut down and lawyers scrambled to learn how to practice “virtually.” We are now proficient in conducting meetings, depositions, hearings and mediations virtually. But this radically altered business environment necessarily requires lawyers to focus on how to generate cash flow when trial dates are delayed for a year or more. This program will discuss fee collection issues that lawyers are experiencing because of the “virtual” world we now find ourselves in. We’ll discuss how to structure fee agreements to facilitate payment, how to collect on fees after the case is over, when and how to pursue an attorney’s lien and ethical and practical consideration in structuring and enforcing fee agreements.
