In this presentation, Michael Chase, a shareholder of Boutin Jones Inc., will discuss substantive and procedural appellate laws and rules that come into play while you are litigating a case in the trial court. Among the topics that will be covered are interlocutory appeals and writ petitions, appealable and non-appealable orders and judgments, properly preserving evidentiary objections, appeal and writ petition deadlines, and preparing for the various standards of review and the harmless error doctrine.
The presentation will include both California and federal court appellate statutes, rules and cases, and will underscore differences between them.
