Hon. Lawrence Brown

Judge Lawrence Brown is a graduate from the University of California, Davis with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He achieved his Juris Doctorate from UC David School of Law (King Hall). Post-law school, he spent the first five years in the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.  In 1993 he was awarded “Attorney of the Year” by his peers for the Felony Division in Ventura’s DA office.

The Executive Director of CDAA, California District Attorneys Association, elevated Judge Brown to the number two position within the association and two years later he became the Executive Director moving to its headquarters in Sacramento. While running CDAA, he became a member of the Sacramento County Bar Association and established deep roots within the Sacramento legal community.

Quoting from the recent 2022 edition of Sacramento Lawyer, “Judge Brown encourages joining bar associations. Not only because they are essential for legal development as more experienced practitioners share lessons but also for the new perspectives the incoming generations bring, with renewed focus on inclusion, equity, and tolerance.”

Judge Brown was appointed by then Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010 to the Sacramento Superior Court and is the current Supervising Collaborative Courts Judge, Department 8.

Judge Brown was honored as SCBA “2022 Judge of the Year” for his outstanding achievements. While he has enjoyed each judicial assignment he has encountered, he feels especially honored to work in the collaborative courts.  He reports, “if the ‘meaning’ in work is a measure, then he has an embarrassment of riches in work satisfaction.”

Quoting another oft-used phrase he says: “If you can get paid for something you love doing, you are on the right track.”
