Asian American History Month

“[T]he Senate: (1) acknowledges that the framework of anti-Chinese legislation, including the Chinese Exclusion Act, is incompatible with the basic founding principles of equality recognized in the Declaration of Independence; (2) regrets passing six decades of legislation targeting the Chinese people for physical and political exclusion; and (3) reaffirms its commitment to preserving the same civil rights and constitutional protections for people of Chinese or other Asian descent in the United States accorded to all others."

5/10: The Consequences of Criminal Convictions in Occupational & Professional Licenses Cases

1:30 - 2:30 PM

1 MCLE Credit

Many occupational and professional licensing agencies consider criminal convictions when deciding whether to grant or discipline a license. This presentation will help criminal defense attorneys and unrepresented parties understand the consequences of criminal convictions in the licensing context, what it means for a conviction to be “substantially related” to a profession, and recent legal changes affecting expungements of convictions.

Join the Honorable Sean Gavin and criminal defense attorney Jennifer Mouzis in their presentation of this important webinar.

The Honorable Sean Gavin has served at the Sacramento Office of Administrative Hearings since January 2019. Before that, he spent 11 years as a civil litigator, focusing on employment law, landlord tenant law, and business law.

Jennifer Mouzis, founder and principal attorney at Mouzis Criminal Defense, heads a Sacramento-based, women-led law firm specializing in defending individuals accused of criminal conduct by state or federal entities. A 1998 graduate of McGeorge School of Law, Jennifer has litigated criminal cases statewide as a former deputy district attorney and private defense counsel. Actively engaged in community service, she serves on the boards of the Sacramento County Bar Association (SCBA) and California Attorneys for Criminal Justice (CACJ), the Upper Room Dining Hall, and founded and chairs the nonprofit When There Are Nine (WTA9), dedicated to addressing inequities in the legal system for women and marginalized groups.
