John R. Wierzbicki, a California lawyer and Co-director of the Witkin Legal Institute, will present on the most significant civil cases decided by the California Supreme Court in 2019 as selected by the Institute’s legal editors. The Institute was founded by legendary legal scholar B. E. Witkin to further his life’s work in advancing the understanding of California law. John heads up the Institute’s legal educational activities and manages the attorneys and other professionals who write and produce Witkin’s California Library: Summary of California Law, 11th ed., California Procedure, 5th ed., California Evidence, 5th ed., and California Criminal Law, 4th ed. John writes for the Institute on the topics of constitutional law, contracts, civil trial procedure, and taxation. He is also the programming chair for the California Lawyers Association’s Copyright Interest Group. Before joining the Institute in March 2018, John led Thomson Reuters’ US Legal author relationship and contracts group for nearly a decade. John also partners with the New York Foundation for the Arts, and other arts organizations and colleges, to conduct legal workshops for creatives in New York, D.C., and California. He is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley (B.A.), the University of Virginia (M.A.), and Georgetown University (J.D.).
