Court holiday ends early — expanded services begin May 6

The Civil, Family, and Probate Departments are currently accepting certain emergency cases and applications only.  Other cases were put on hold with due dates extended until May 15. That has now changed.

Beginning May 6, 2020, these departments  will begin accepting filings of new cases and papers in existing cases. (Read the Court’s notice of expanded service. and FAQ re Court Operations During COVID-19 Pandemic on the court’s coronavirus web page.)

The court buildings will be partially staffed and generally closed to members of the public except for limited purposes, including filing papers in the drop boxes. The court prefers that they be mailed to 720 Ninth St, Sacramento CA 95814.

If you need to start a guardianship, file a name or name and gender change, or file papers in a debt collection or other simple civil case, you will be able to file them starting next Wednesday May 6. Our Civil Self Help Center is providing telephone assistance with these topics. Call ‪(916) 476-2731‬ and our staff will call you back to determine eligibility and make a longer phone appointment if you qualify.
